► SO What? - Elections 2012

It’s that time of year again when you may begin to notice students with whacky outfits on, giving away sweets as if the end of the world was nigh. That can only mean one thing – KU STUDENTS’ UNION ELECTION 2012!

‘...SO What?’ I hear you cry. The Students’ Union has nothing to do with you, right? Wrong!

Whether you know it or not, decisions that are made within the Students’ Union affect your everyday student life, especially if you are a member of a sports club or society, part of the volunteering team, use the bars or shops or have ever come to us for advice. And even if you don’t tick any of those boxes, we are still here representing you to the university every single day.

Every decision that is made within the Students’ Union is made by the people that YOU vote in each year – the four Full-Time Officers, and the 14 Part-Time Officers. It’s down to you who gets elected into those roles – so it’s really important that you USE YOUR VOTE!

Or perhaps you think you could be the best person for the job, and want to make your mark on the Union. If you’ve spent this year thinking: ‘Well, that was a stupid decision’ or ‘I totally disagree with what’s been done there’ or ‘I like that idea, but if it had been done like this it would have worked so much better...’ – then why not be the change you want to see, and run in the elections yourself?

The positions are as follows:

President
Vice President Education
Vice President Activities
Vice President Student Life
LGBT Officer
Unity Officer
Women’s Officer
International Students’ Officer
Ethical and Environmental officer
Disabled Students’ Officer
Postgraduate Students’ Officer
Partner College Officer
