► Why Volunteer?

Why Volunteer?

Volunteering is a great mixture of helping other and helping yourself as well!

As well as letting you do something for the community, meet new people and have a good time, volunteering can give your career a great kick start. Employers are looking for more than just a degree and graduates today need to develop skills that they can only get by going out there and getting some real experience.

So, you want to go into marketing? Fundraise for a charity. You want to be an events manager? Run your own project. You want to be a teacher? Provide classroom support in a local school. You want to be a director? Set up drama workshops or performances in community groups or schools.

Volunteering can help you by:

  • Giving you the chance to meet and network with like-minded people, both other students and members of the local community
  • Improving your job prospects and employability
  • Opening up new opportunities and challenges
  • Giving you experience of what life in the Charity (Third) Sector is like
  • Providing you with a break from studying that you'll feel good about

As well as providing you with the opportunities, we also have Development Portfolios which help volunteers to record their experiences, recognise the skills they're developing and talk about both in interviews- see our other info

Volunteering’s so beneficial, London Major Boris Johnson’s trying to get the whole capital volunteering. Click here to see why:
