Development Portfolios
We know that our students do some fantastic work, but we also know that often they’re too modest about it when it comes to job applications and interviews! Volunteering enables you to gain some great skills as well as help others, and employers love this. So we’ve put together Development Portfolios to make it easier to assess how your volunteering supports your personal development. They’re full of exercises to help you define your skills, gage your strengths and weaknesses, plan how you’re going to fill the gaps in your CV and relate your volunteering experiences to job specifications and talk about them in interviews. There’s a space to log your volunteering, and they come in a purple clip folder with space to keep together certificates, awards and useful information.
Training- we’ll also help you use your portfolio! There will be information sessions at the start of the academic year for new volunteers on how to get the most out of them, and workshops for final year students who are preparing for the job market. You can also have 1:1 sessions with a Volunteer Coordinator to talk about any part of the portfolio- just give us a ring or e-mail volunteering@kingston.ac.uk to book a time!
You’ll usually get a Portfolio from your Volunteer Coordinator when you register as a volunteer, but if you don’t have one then you can pop into the KUSU offices and collect one. As with any KUSU document, if you need your portfolio in a different format, just let us know and we’ll do our best to arrange this for you.
