KUSU Elections 2011

Elections are an integral part of how the union runs and are essential in maintining a strong democracy. Elections occur in March every academic year, giving students a chance to stand for any of the  executive positions at Kingston University Students Union. This means that anyone who is a student of Kingston University have the chance to stand for an executive position in the Union. The executive positions in the union can be split into two categories: full and part-time.

Full-Time Executive

Full-time executive officers (often referred to Sabbaticals) take a gap year inbetween years of their study (or the year after they graduate) to work full time within the Union. Full-time executive officers are responsible for the day-to-day running of the Union and are there to ensure that the best intrests of the students are maintained throughout every decision that the union makes. The full time executive officers are trustees of the organisation.  As well as being representatives for students, each full-time executive officer looks after an area that is of specific benefit to students at Kingston. The area that each full-time officer presides over is reflected in the names of their positions.

The full-time executive officer positions at the students unions are:

Part-Time Executive

Part-time executive officers have the same duties and powers as full-time executive officers without having to commit to being in the union on a full-time basis. Part-time officers fufil their role alongside their studies; running campaigns and attending meetings of the executive commitee to ensure that they are an effective voice of  the students that they represent. Through attending executive commitee meetings the part-time executive still have a huge say in how the union is run, they have the same powers as the full-time executive when voting at executive commitee.
